Our Web Hosting and WordPress Hosting plans come with an unlimited number of IMAP mailboxes. To access your email account, you can use an email app on your computer or phone, or you can use our webmail service. We recommend using an email app in most cases for the best experience.

Note: These instructions do not apply to Microsoft 365 mailboxes.

Adding your email account to an email app (recommended)

Apple Mail (macOS)

  • Start by making sure the Mail app is closed (no black dot underneath it in the dock at the bottom of the screen) -- if it is open, press and hold on the Mail icon on the dock, and choose Quit
  • Click to the Apple menu in the top left corner of the screen and click System Settings...
  • From there, click Internet Accounts on the list on the left sidebar, then click the Add Account... button on the right
  • It'll ask you for your email address but don't type this in yet, instead click the small blue link underneath that says choose from a list
  • Click Add Other Account... at the bottom of the list, then click Mail Account
  • In the Name field, enter your name as you want it to appear on outgoing emails, for example John Smith
  • In the Email Address field, enter your email address, for example john.smith@example.com
  • In the Password field, enter the password for your mailbox
    • If you're unsure what this is, you can reset it in Plesk (or raise a support ticket for assistance), but be aware that resetting your password will prevent your other devices from accessing the mailbox until you give those other devices the new password also
  • Click Sign In, and after a couple of seconds you will then see some extra boxes appear with an error message saying Unable to verify account name or password -- this is expected, we just need to give the computer a little extra info
  • In the Account Type dropdown, make sure it says IMAP
  • Incoming Mail Server should be mail.example.com (replace example.com with your actual domain name)
  • Outgoing Mail Server should be mail.example.com (replace example.com with your actual domain name)
  • Click Sign In again
  • You'll now see a box with two toggle switches, turn Mail on, and Notes off, then click Done
  • Open the Mail app and all your emails will start loading in

Apple Mail (iOS / iPadOS)

  • Open the Settings app on your phone
  • Scroll to the bottom and tap Apps, then Mail, then Mail Accounts
  • Tap Add Account
  • It'll ask you for your email address but don't type this in yet, instead click the small blue link underneath that says choose from a list
  • Click Add Other Account... at the bottom of the list, then click Mail Account
  • In the Name field, enter your name as you want it to appear on outgoing emails, for example John Smith
  • In the Email Address field, enter your email address, for example john.smith@example.com
  • In the Password field, enter the password for your mailbox
    • If you're unsure what this is, you can reset it in Plesk (or raise a support ticket for assistance), but be aware that resetting your password will prevent your other devices from accessing the mailbox until you give those other devices the new password also
  • In the Description field you may type whatever you wish, this is just for your use so you can tell this account apart from any other accounts on your phone
  • Tap Next in the top right, and after a couple of seconds you will then see some extra boxes appear
  • At the top, make sure IMAP is selected
  • Name, Email, and Description will already be filled out from the previous screen
  • Under Incoming Mail Server:
    • Host Name should be mail.example.com (replace example.com with your actual domain name)
    • Username should be your email address, for example john.smith@example.com
    • Password should already be filled out from the previous screen, if not, enter the password for your mailbox
  • Under Outgoing Mail Server:
    • Host Name should be mail.example.com (replace example.com with your actual domain name)
    • Username should be your email address, for example john.smith@example.com (despite what your phone says, this is not optional!)
    • Password should already be filled out from the previous screen, if not, enter the password for your mailbox (despite what your phone says, this is not optional!)
  • Tap Next and wait for checkmarks to appear down the right hand side
    • If you get errors at this point, do not attempt to correct the information as iOS/iPadOS will not validate the settings properly on subsequent attempts -- instead it's best to cancel out and start over from the beginning
  • You'll now see a box with two toggle switches, turn Mail on, and Notes off, then click Done
  • Open the Mail app and all your emails will start loading in

Other mail apps

Other mail apps vary in their layout and wording, but they'll all ask the same core questions, the answers to which can be found below.

  • Account type: IMAP
  • Name: your name, for example John Smith
  • Email address: your email address, for example john.smith@example.com
  • Password: your mailbox password
    • If you're unsure what this is, you can reset it in Plesk (or raise a support ticket for assistance), but be aware that resetting your password will prevent your other devices from accessing the mailbox until you give those other devices the new password also
  • Incoming Mail Server: mail.example.com (replace example.com with your actual domain name)
  • Outgoing Mail Server: mail.example.com (replace example.com with your actual domain name)
  • Encryption / TLS / SSL: Either On, Yes, Enabled, SSL, or STARTTLS

Using webmail

if you don't want to use an email app (or if you don't have permission to add an email account to your computer, or if you're using someone else's computer), you can use webmail to access your mailbox instead:

  • In a web browser, visit https://webmail.example.com (replace example.com with your actual domain name)
  • In the Username field, enter your email address, for example john.smith@example.com
  • In the Password field, enter the password for your mailbox
    • If you're unsure what this is, you can reset it in Plesk (or raise a support ticket for assistance), but be aware that resetting your password will prevent your other devices from accessing the mailbox until you give those other devices the new password also
